Losing it...

Ok, if anyone is actually reading this (I'm hoping!) I really, really could use some help...

I am now officially less than six weeks away from the Ogden Marathon (aka Sugar Day) and I'm very quickly losing motivation. I've come to really loathe training. I hate waking up early just to go run and I just feel tired all the time. I'm starting to think that it's totally not worth the stress. Do I really need to run a marathon? I'm completely questioning it now.

Along the same lines, was it really smart to voluntarily give up sugar until the marathon is over? Every week gets harder and harder... sometimes I just want a cookie! It's weird, but baking cupcakes every week (which is actually really fun usually) doesn't make me want sugar so much, but seeing cookies and other treats everywhere really makes me want to break. Sunday, I brought home some cookies from my mom to give to a girl in my ward, and I seriously thought about eating one.

I know that I've been working hard and I've come so far (101 days and 20 miles to be exact) that if I quit now I would just be angry with myself for not seeing it through.

If anyone out there can lend some support, I would really appreciate it! There could even be some cupcakes in it for you ;)

Side note (as there usually is with every post): The Gold's Gym Employee Challenge ended last week. I weighed in on Friday to find out that I'm neck and neck with the girl who was in the lead. Haven't found out who won yet, but the anticipation is KILLING me! After I weighed in, I lost all motivation for sticking to a diet, so I need to get back on track to not gain it all back. That's part of the help I need, I guess.

Comments are welcome and appreciated!

I am reading Lisa, and you CAN NOT QUIT NOW!!!! You trained too hard not to do the marathon. If you have to give up one thing, give up the no sugar. Change it to one treat a week, which is still hard to do but not as impossible. You have to do the marathon. I am signed up for the half (my first ever) and we can't quit!!! Oh and is it too late to vote for cupcake flavor? I choose peaches and cream and coconut cream. YUMMM

There weren't many votes for peaches and cream but coconut cream definitely made the list! I'll be sure to drop a couple by when I make them... they are on the schedule for the week before the race :)

I definitely agree with Ash. You can't give up now (on the running at least), you're so close! (I didn't even get up to 20 miles before the marathon, only 18... mostly it had to do with working 40+ hours a week AND full time school during the entire training schedule). I'm not going to lie I almost gave up too, but I'm glad I didn't. I promise it will be so amazing and so worth it! I think you've been so good to cut out the sugar, I could never go that long. I did notice the difference in my running when I didn't drink soda or eat as much crap, but I think if you deprive yourself of all things sweet it makes things a lot harder. One treat a week sounds a lot more do-able. I always treated myself to something like a milkshake after a long hard run once a week. That is, after all, one of the main reasons I run, so I CAN eat stuff like that. Bottom line, don't quit your training! You'll always regret it. Keep up the good work! As Rob Sneider says: "You can do it!"

Thanks, girls! I think I just had a near breaking point but I'm actually excited about my 20 miles this weekend. Now that the gym competition is over and I've added fruit back to my diet I'm doing a little better. I think I'll keep with the no sugar until after the race and use bananas and grapes as my treats :) CAN'T WAIT TIL MAY 21ST!!!

Bananas with peanut butter is a wonderful post-run snack! (there are a lot of brands that are just straight peanuts, no sugar added)

Ha ha I know! I get the Adam's brand unsalted and it doesn't have much sugar. I love it! I have a piece of bread with some spread on it before my runs, I'll have to try the banana with peanut butter tomorrow! I'm totally motivated again. Just 5 more weeks!
